In what seems an inordinate amount of publicity engendered by offering a free Slurpee, 7-Eleven has generated significant buzz and excitement over their annual free offering for customers to grab their favorite Slurpee.
I think the reason the company has enjoyed such good publicity over their offering is the state of the economy, and how even offering something free like this creates a lot of good will and draws a lot of extra foot traffic to the store.
What's good about offering anything like this for free, is it positions the company in the mind of consumers again, when their minds can be focused on their troubles.
The one thing I don't like about it, is all stores didn't participate, which on a local level is worse than not having the promotion at all.
I've always liked the way 7-Eleven taps into the date July 11 to aid in its promotion.
While people always love free, in the current economic climate, it'll be increasingly an important part of our marketing strategy.
