
Scott Kalitta, whose car burst into flames after exploding to a lead, died of injuries after the emergency response team worked feverishly to save his life. He was pronounced dead of mulitiple injuries not long afterwords at Old Bridge Township Hospital.
Kalitta was a two-time NHRA POWERade Series Top Fuel champion, winning the season championships in 1994 and 1995. Altogether he won 18 victories over his career.
Scott was the son of legendary racing father, Connie.

Ironically, Kalitta had left the sport a couple of times to spend more time with his family, and obviously came back to compete once again.
Along with his father Connie, Scott is survived by his wife Kathy, and sons Corey, 14, and Colin, 8.
