Borrell Associates projects that local online advertising in the U.S. will come it at about $13.1 billion for 2008. That's better than originally thought at the end of 2007.
Per the report, Borrell added that once the migration of ads to the Web has matured, they expect things to go down to single-digit growth by 2012. Local online advertising has been growing at a double-digit rate, and is expected to continue on for another 18 months.
In a summary, Borrell noted that Yellow Pages publishers were particularly strong, and have a competitive advantage in the Web advertising space.
"Unfortunately for (the competition), Yellow Pages publishers have already staked out the turf and have been the most successful of all media companies at developing their interactive revenues and protecting their core customer base," Borrell said.
If you're a local advertiser, this is good news, as you should be able to count on some predictable revenue and cash flow for the next year or two before things start slowing down as the online ad market matures.
