Thomas Athans, husband of U.S. Senator from Michigan, Democrat Debbie Stabenow, was stopped in an Internet sting involving prostitutes, after he was pulled over by police when leaving a motel he paid a prostitute to have sex with.
Amazingly, he wasn't charged with a crime, as police said he cooperated with them in their investigation of prostitution being initiated from the Web and spread across the city.
Lt. Gerard Scherlinck said concerning Athans that “He was very cooperative. He didn’t tell officers who he was. He did not ask for any special treatment.”
He admitted that he paid $150 to engage a prostitute in oral sex.
I wonder if we'll hear Hillary Clinton acknowledge him again like she did last month in a Detroit speech. Athans has strong connections to liberal activism and Democratic Party officials.
The police set up a sting at a hotel when they found Athans making a solicitation for sex on a Web site. After setting up surveillance, they observed Athans soon drive up and enter the hotel, and then leaving about 15 minutes later.
The Detroit Free Press broke the story after obtaining a report under the Freedom of Information Act. It makes you question the assertion that Athans wasn't treated special because of his marriage to Stabenow.
