The strong message from the International Olympic Committee is they want the Internet to be open during the Beijing Olympics.
Talking to reporters, IOC coordination commission vice chairman Kevan Gosper said, " ... we discussed and insisted again ... that the Internet is open at all times during Games time.
"Our concern is that the press is able to operate as it has at previous Games during Games time. I'm satisfied that the Chinese understand the need for this and that they will do it."
Gosper also told the Chinese that not allowing full Internet access for the Olympics would "would reflect very poorly" on them.
China has enacted temporary laws to deal with the situation, which lifts restrictions on foreign media until they end in October.
Gosper said he believes the Chinese will comply. "I'm satisfied that the Chinese understand the need for this and they will do it."
