There are 40,000 spots available for rental housing in Chicago, and the Chicago Housing Authority is holding a lottery for people to get a chance at one of those spots on a waiting list.
The lottery will be held until May 15, where at that time it will be closed to registration. People can go to RentBetter.org to register for the lottery. It is the official site of the lottery, and developed by the city of Chicago.
Rentals are in relationship to subsidized housing called Secton 8.
Officials from CHA said they believe some lottery winners will get their vouchers by as early as the middle of summer; much quicker than the usual process.
If you are interested, or know someone this may help, you may have to go to the site several times, as it's being slammed today, and the servers crashed when I checked it out.
Remember, this is only for the Chicago area.
