In a deal with Facebook, Paramount Pictures (NYSE: VIA-B) will be making a large number of film clips available through a new app on the social network.
"The short clips for a movie that you've already seen before helps you relive the moment," Paramount senior vice president of entertainment Derek Broes said.
While all the clips will be small, some will be much shorter than others, as they can range anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes. The clips will include classic takes from films like "Breakfast at Tiffany's," to more modern in-your-face footage.
Facebook users will be able to view the clips and then easily send them to their friends in the network.
What Paramount will get out of it is the opportunity to offer up film trailers that they hope will go viral as Facebook users share them across the community. The studio will also include a button at the end of each clip, where viewers are given the choice of buying DVDs of the movies Paramount Pictures offers.
Paramount has partnered with developer FanRocket, who has created the "VooZoo" application that is in effect today on Facebook.

I got this on Facebook and it's pretty cool. If the studios are so worried about theft and piracy, they should make their clips available like Paramount is doing.
