For 2007, much of the increase in category visits online mirrored the real world, as politics, women's community sites, celebrity news and online classifieds had the strongest increase in visitors for the year.
Unsurprisingly, politics took the lead position, as the U.S. presidential election drew people to websites during the year; that category enjoyed a 35 percent gain overall.
Women's community sites, while equal in percentage, were slightly behind the political category, although still increasing by a strong 35 percent as well.
In another expected online growth category, celebrity and entertainment news sites continue to surge, growing by a healthy 32 percent in 2007.
Right behind them was the strong online classifieds market, growing by 31 percent over 2006, continuing to take share away from newspaper classifieds.
Career and training educational sites also drew well, increasing by 31 percent from the year before.
Rounding off the top ten were retail, finance, teen and religion, all growing between 20 percent to 25 percent year-over-year.
More than likely we'll see these trends continue on in 2008.
