Yahoo Feels Shareholders` Wrath in Rebuking Microsoft

In rejecting Microsoft's $44.6 billion purchase offer, Yahoo has drawn the ire of investors who feel the company isn't doing right by them.

Two Detroit pension funds have initiated a class-action lawsuit against Yahoo and its board of directors for trying to rebuke the bid and attempting to third-party deals which the funds say would be "destructive to shareholder value."

We talked before about the fact there were going to be an increasing number of lawsuits filed against Yahoo (Nasdaq:YHOO) for their decision.

Facebook has suffered its first fall in UK users, with a 5% drop between December and January, according to new figures.

According to the article, Facebook saw a 5% drop between December, 2007 and January, 2008, but still had 8.5 million users in January. This keeps Facebook in the number one position as the most popular social network in the U.K. However, after 17 straight months of growth, this drop of 400,000 users, is the first on record for Facebook in the U.K.

A federal judge said Friday that consumers may go ahead with a class action lawsuit against Microsoft Corp. over the way it advertised computers loaded with Windows XP as capable of running the Vista operating system.

Digital downloads will be Blu-ray's downfall

With the fall of HD DVD, Blu-ray has assumed the throne as the next format of choice, but its reign will be short-lived.

Blu-ray won't enjoy the same decade-long dominance DVD did after it succeeded VHS. But that's not because there will be other challenger physical disc formats. Rather, instead of buying discs from Amazon, Best Buy or Wal-Mart, people will begin getting their entertainment in the form of digital downloads in larger volumes.

Japan's space agency launched an experimental communications satellite Saturday designed to enable super high-speed data transmission at home and in Southeast Asia.

Online Video Views Reach 10 Billion

In December 2007 U.S. Internet users viewed more than 10 billion videos online and it was the busiest month for online video consumption since comScore, which authored the report, began tracking online video.

"December represented a considerably strong month for online video viewing," said Erin Hunter, comScore executive vice president of media and entertainment. "With the writer's strike keeping new TV episodes from reaching the airwaves, viewers have been seeking alternatives for fresh content. It appears that online video is stepping in to help fill that void."

UK orders broadband future review 
 
Broadband internet is growing in popularity and speed
The government has said it will review the future of broadband internet in the UK amid calls that it should help firms pay for installing new infrastructure.
It said it wants a better understanding of how to pave the way for moving to "next generation broadband networks."
