Fast Company has recently decided to embrace user-generated content and add it to its publishing platform.
Now readers at the site will be able to participate by writing blogs, interact in forums, contributing articles and answer questions generated by the editors.
Edward Sussman, president of Mansueto Digital (parent of Fast Company), said, "Starting today, [Friday] Mansueto Digital becomes the first major website to blend journalism with an online community to create something better than either by itself.
"There are a lot of powerful reasons why amateurs should be enabled to fully participate in the mainstream media."
The bottom line in all of this is stickiness of course. Get people to add their ideas or thoughts in a variety of ways, and you get them coming back and staying longer.
While Mansueto editor Loren Feldman maintains they'll be able to continue on with their "quality of journalism," the whole idea is to get a little more of the wild west in the mix, otherwise making the move wouldn't make any sense.
It looks like they've already had a significant response to their initiative, as a large number of people have already signed up for their blogs.
As long at they don't try to exercise too much control over the citizens, this should be a good idea for Fast Company.
