Many online marketers miss out on a number of revenue streams by not understanding the underlying expertise their existing business has within it.
A recent example is the video Web site GoFish, which targets the youth market with videos and entertainment across a network of sites.
What the company is doing is going beyond its own web sites, to create an online advertising network which will compete with industry giants Nickelodeon and Disney (DIS).
The value GoFish will bring to the party is its "highly actionable market intelligence, product and packaging expertise, custom solutions, and best of breed technology services. The result is the increased ability to monetize contextual and behavioral placements, direct sales, remnant, and even international inventory. In addition, the GoFish Network will also provide quality branded broadband ad-supported youth content to its publishers, allowing its partners to extend revenues without increasing overhead."
The point is they are able to take what they have learned within their businesses and repackage it as an entirely new and valuable service to other companies wanting to generate more income in this increasingly lucrative demographic between the ages of 6-17.
Any online marketer that's been around for any time at all can do the same. Things we may take for granted as far as the practical learning and steps we've taken to get to where we are, can be missed as another way to generate significant revenue.
Every extra thing we have learned can be turned into a revenue stream by packaging it in ways others can learn and benefit from.
What happens many times is we simply take for granted what we've learned is known by everybody else. The truth is that it isn't. This is why so many people are looking for very specific answers to very specific questions. What we've learned on our journey can definitely be used to build out our businesses.
Don't assume something that is common to the way you do business is known by others. If we do, we don't understand the importance of the expertise we have that is the foundation of our success.
Many times we can make more money from our underlying expertise than we do from the end product or service we've developed. It's definitely worth checking through and writing down the things we've learned during our online ventures to see what it is we have that is unique to us, and can be packaged into new products or services.
We don't want to do this so we create copycats of our existing businesses, but to find those permanent things that anyone could apply to their online marketing business to make it improve.
There will never be an end to someone willing to pay to find out one more piece of information that can bring their business to another level. It could definitely be residing within your past experience. Tap into it and see what's there. It could end up helping many others, while bringing your income to another level.
