While Silobreaker, a search company founded in 2005, is an aggregator of news and current event stories, it goes beyond that it claims, into being able to look at search results like human beings do.
“It’s no secret that the news industry as well as other information providers are being challenged to change. Information is everywhere and now it’s time to make sense of it all,” commented Silobreaker CEO, Kristofer Mansson. “Silobreaker provides a service that combines both aggregation and sense-making analytics; capable of answering time-sensitive and business-critical questions, as well as general queries, and we want it to be accessible to everyone.”
How it basically works, is the "relational analysis and explanatory graphics" used empowers users to have high level contextual insight into the day's news stories. It does it because the technology will recognize topics, keywords, people, companies and places. It is able to comprehend how the connect to each other in the news, and then brings them into context for those searching.
The company says it searches out over 10,000 sources; including multimedia, research, news and blogs, which it then can bring together contextually for the user.
I personally haven't tried their product out yet, but it does sound compelling enough to give them a try.
