The unique pitch by NBC Universal (GE)to major advertisers concerning out-of-home screens, underscores the growing importance of reaching people where they are.
Using out-of-home screens for advertising isn't new, but the growing adoption and use of them is. With only the Internet out-performing the medium in advertising growth, it's important to consider it as a legitimate medium to market on or create content for.
Some of the ways advertising is being placed out-of-home are in shopping malls, hospitals, taxis, trains, schools, gas stations, stadiums and grocery stores.
It shouldn't matter if you're a small business or a large one; whether you are a content creator, ad agency or business; this form of advertising has a lot of poetential.
There are three ways to make money with it. You can either look at creating short-form content advertising can be placed against, or be the one placing the advertising. Of course the location receiving the content or advertising would make money also.
This post I'm just presenting it and the possibilities available. The implication for large businesses is obvious, but the potential for small and medium-sized businesses on a local or regional scale are also substantial.
For now, it's something to do a little research into, or think of places locally you may be able to offer advertising or content like this. Any place where people have to wait or they take some type of public transportation is a potential hot spot.
One reason to look seriously at it carefully and quickly, is the competition at this time is very small in contrast to where it will be in the near future.
If you're a smaller, locally focused business, this is a great strategy to look at putting content or advertising in locations that a similar demographic would hang out in or stop at. It would give you exposure your local competitors can't touch.
This needs a close, serious look by all advertisers and short-form content creators. One hint: don't think of entertainment content alone, think in terms of how-to videos, and similar content.
