Online Video will be a Competitive Advantage Very Soon

The promise of the convergence of the Internet with television has been around awhile, and the reality is probably a few years off yet, at least for the average user, which means the majority of people.

Having said that, this is a time for online marketers to seriously consider starting to learn the ropes of creating rich media presentations and content.

The first thing to say about that is don't consider it the answer for everything. I've seen the people selling stuff online touting this as the new "promised land" of Internet marketing.

Like everything else, this will be another tool in our arsenal we can use to enhance our products and services, or create content to generate ad revenue. It's not the new thing that will determine success on its own, while dropping everything else.

It will be more crucial to those creating video content, because that is the medium they're choosing to generate revenue. At the same time, adding video to your text and/or audio marketing is a vital element that will be necessary to have in the very near future.

What's good about it, is the more things you do to make things enticing, the better chance you have of winning customers. Every barrier in the way is a barrier to your competition. You lose a certain number of competitive businesses or people every time something new is added to what you do.

Even though people are making this out as the next big thing, if you're a content creator, it'll take some time. When I say content creator here, I'm talking about entertainment content. Stuff you make to have people watch for no other reason. Similar to watching TV or a movie.

There's of course a ton of other content that can be created. One of the most important, possibly even more than entertaining content, are videos that show people how to do things. Video is especially suited to that market, as showing is always more powerful than telling.

Video, in whatever capacity it will work for you in your online marketing efforts, is definitely something you should start training on, or find a company to do it for you if you can afford it. It's going to be a competitive advantage to marketers in whatever capacity they use it over the next several years. Now's the time to start experimenting with it.
