The top advertising and marketing services company in the world, Omnicom Group (OMC), announced today they're investing in a large, minority stake in China's Shunya Communications Group via its BBDO arm.
Sunya is one of the best integrated communications companies in China.
Michael Birkin, Omnicom's Vice Chairman and Chairman and CEO Asia Pacific, said, "Shunya is well recognized as a leading creative agency and certainly the strongest integrated communications group in China. For all our clients, having such a powerful resource in the Omnicom Group in China is great news."
The four major operating agencies within Shunya - Shunya International Ad Inc., Shunya Profuture Events Marketing Inc., Shunya International PR Inc. and Shunya PR Inc., would become a part of Omnicom's BBDO, Proximity, Porter Novelli and Pleon, subject to regulatory approval.
This would give Omnicom a foot into the interior provinces of China, through Shunya's extensive network.
Assuming it's approved, this is a good move by Omnicom, and will offer their clients a valuable entry point into the middle kingdom.
