On Wednesday, MySpace (NYSE:NWS-A) announced it would be launching its entry into the opening of platforms field, as they'll be soon offering tools for developers to access some the social network sites' code in order to build their own creations.
Some things they'll be able to build and monetize, are ways to share media, and games that will integrate better with the website.
At the launch, developers will have the ability to develop and test their creations, but they won't be able to integrate them into the network immediately. It's not known when that will be available to the developers.
Newly named chief operating officer, Amit Kapur, said there will be ways for developers to generate ad income with their applications, but the details concerning that won't be revealed until next week.
It looks like MySpace will have some type of controls in place to avoid the debacle Facebook is going through by allowing Scrabulous, an Internet version of Scrabble, to be put on their site. Hasbro Inc. and Mattel sent cease-and-desist notices in response.
MySpace is trying to avoid that so they can empower original creations not in jeopardy of resulting in lawsuits.
With MySpace being so different from Facebook, it'll be interesting to see in the weeks ahead what unique applications are created specifically to fit the network.
