Early reports from Amazon.com (AMZN) show that holiday sales for the 2007 season were the best in its history.
What led them to the strong sales isn't a secret either, as toys, video games, consumer electronics and high def TVs led the way. Other popular products driving sales were a variety of tools for men.
To give an idea of how strong this years sales were, for the busiest day for Amazon in 2006, orders reached a little over 4 million. In 2007, their busiest day, which was December 10, orders reached over 5.4 million items, equal to 62.5 products a second.
One of the highest demand products was the Nintendo Wii system (NTDOY.PK); when Amazon had them in stock they were ordered at a rate of 17 systems per second.
For consumer electronics, the leader sellers for Amazon included the Garmin GPS (GRMN), Canon PowerShot digital Elph cameras (CAJ) and Samsung LCD HDTVs.
Among the top DVD sellers for the Christmas season were "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," and "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix."
Leading the way in accessories and apparel were the Kenneth Cole Reaction men's Eden wool pea coat (KCP), and for women the Gruppo Italiano cashmere-lined leather glove, along with the Red Moon long sleeve cashmere turtleneck.
