The dumb move by "Dubliner" magazine from Ireland, concerning publishing false photos of Elin Woods, the wife of Tiger, shows how a marketer can go too far in trying to make sales.
Circumstances of the situation were the magazine decided to do a sleazy spread on the wives of prominent golfers around the time of last years' Ryder Cup. They published fake nude photos of Elin Woods, and photos of other wives, under the title "Ryder Cup filth for Ireland."
Now they're rightly paying the price for their stupid decision, although Elin has agreed to settlement terms which the magazine will pay her 125 thousand euro, which she is donating to charities that offer cancer support.
As mentioned here, "the magazine also apologized to the ex-model 'unreservedly and completely.' They also admitted the photo's were 'cheap tasteless, deliberately offensive and completely untrue.'"
Why they thought they could get away with this is incomprehensible.
The money isn't a big deal for the company, but their loss of credibility and integrity definitely is. It makes you wonder what type of people they have for editors there.
