Microsoft has landed an exclusive online ad deal with CNBC [GE], the cable television business channel.
This is a good deal for Microsoft [MSFT], because the overall customer who consumes business content is very desired, and represents a high income segment of the population. Advertising results are strong in this category, and can command premium prices.
The deal involves the website of the cable business network, CNBC.com, and the exclusiveness of the deal relates to online display and contextual ads.
Display ads are offered via graphics, and contextual ads are delivered in relationship to what content the visitor is viewing at the time. The contextual ads will be provided later this month, and the display ads will begin running sometime in March, 2008.
Microsoft asserts CNBC.com garners about 2.6 million unique monthly visitors.
