Saying he wanted to "go out in style" in a suicide note, a lone gunman in Omaha, Nebraska opened fire on Christmas shoppers at the Westroads Mall, killing eight people before turning the gun on himself.
Wearing an army-type vest and a backpack, while carrying a rifle, Robert A Hawkins, either 19 or 20, started shooting from a third floor balcony in the three story mall. An unidentified law enforcement source gave out Hawkins name and information on the suicide note.
Reports are that at least five other people were injured, two of them critically.
The Westroad Mall is the largest in Nebraska, at 1.2 million square feet, is owned by General Growth Properties. It's extremely busy, receiving 14.5 million yearly visitors.
