In a pretty cool opportunity for Warcraft players and fans, a new company, FigurePrints, headed by one of the former top executives at Microsoft Game Studios' Ed Fries, will offer consumers the chance to get a plaster replica of their favorite characters made for them from the World of Warcraft.
When you create your own characters in the game, you can have them reproduced as figurines through the FigurePrint company, which has partnered with Blizzard Entertainment, who publishes World of Warcraft.
The company will "grab your latest character data from the World of Warcraft Armory, create a custom 3D model, and then let you pose it any way you like. Once you are happy with the way it looks you simply hit “Print” and our proprietary software prepares the model for printing. Our artists finish the process, turning your selection into a high-quality collectible. Once it has passed our artists’ inspection, your print is packaged carefully and shipped directly to your home."
The figurines can be ordered for $99.95 each, and will be delivered in somewhere between 30 to 60 days. At this time, only consumers in the U.S. and Canada will be given a chance to have a character figurine built. The company projects that sometime around March, 2008, players in Europe will have a chance to get a figurine, while a strategy for Asian players is still being worked on.
As of July, World of Warcraft reportedly had a user-base of about 9 million subscribers from around the world.
FigurePrints LLC is located in Redmond, Washington.
