Concerns about the economy has not only made consumers a little skittish about how much they spend this holiday season, but it has also caused them to hold back some on giving. As a result, as reported by Second Harvest, the largest domestic hunger relief organization in the United States, they are fall short of meeting the needs of people during this season.
Wal-Mart (WMT) responded tremendously to the need, donating 3 million meals to help offset the 12 million-meal shortage.
Other charities have also said they've fallen short in their goals as well, the Salvation Army being another that immediately comes to mind.
I think it's a good idea to consider looking at charities during this time of the year that especially cater to meeting the immediate needs of people. It looks like it's going to be a tough time for many people out there that depended on people giving.
If any of us online marketers have a little extra to give, I encourage you to take a little time to think about those in serious need during this holiday season.
This isn't one of those guilt pleas, but just letting you know that giving has been short this year because of economic concerns. Those of us with a little extra could help alleviate those shortages by just giving a little to those that have real needs this year.
It's a good idea to give back. Somehow we get far more in return than we ever could give away.
