Something a lot of people advertising and marketing forget or don't understand, is that everything being sold isn't connected to immediate profit.
Of course that's one of the big differences between branding and directs sales, but I'm talking about something a little different here.
We need to understand that even if we're not selling a product or service upfront, we are still selling something.
Even if something is for free, we're still selling it in the sense that we want someone to take an action of some sort. Online it could be that we're trying to build up our ezine subscription, or inserting material in a free report of ebook that will include our web site address or other offers perhaps.
The point is to know that we still must sell that which is offered for free, because selling is about getting someone to take an action, no matter what its cost is.
When you are in the proper frame of mind with a long-term outlook, you'll look at selling in a much different light, especially when you create free offers to get someone to take an action sometime later.
What's great about marketing free stuff, is you can include all sorts of little things that can generate significant income over a long period of time.
No matter what we're doing with our online businesses, marketing and selling is a part of everything, no matter if it's free or not. We must write our ad copy with that in mind. We can't get lazy, which is tempting to do, when we produce free stuff to entice people to take an action. Many times it's the most powerful means of success there is; bringing better results over a period of time then direct sales and instant profits.
