The buzz around the Internet that Travis Barker was found dead in his garage has generated an extraordinary amount of traffic to a number of web sites, including my showbiz site here. Check it out to see the hits when you're done reading this article.
What's interesting about this rumor, and what makes it so interesting and powerful, is nobody as of the time of this writing knows if it's true or not, which adds even more to the interest and curiosity.
Because the rumor hasn't been confirmed one way or the other, I want to be careful not to be disrespectful, in the small likelyhood that it is.
At the same time, the ability to take something and allow the very nature and power that the rumor entails, is a powerful tool to use in your Internet marketing arsenal, as far as it relates to getting people to visit your web site.
Travis Barker Doing Some Work
You take something or someone, in this case Travis Barker, who is well known among a certain crowd; just tell a little of the story and a couple thoughts on it; and from there you get an enormous amount of traffic.
Rumors are powerful. What's even more powerful are rumors that may or may not be true, but are possible. That's the difference between a gossip rag and something interesting. Everyone going to a gossip site are there for the sole purpose of being entertained by the improbable - but fun to read.
A rumor, especially of the probability kind, are powerful and more enticing than those that are considered only gossip.
It's something to think about in your Internet marketing ventures.
Oh, another thing. If you get there quickly, you can end up on the front page of Google with your story, like I did in this case. I don't know when you read this if that is the case, but it was as of this writing.
One other added benefit, is it can get a lot of people commenting on the story, keeping them on your web site longer. I already had quite a few when I put this online.
Go here on how to handle and manage rumors like this - whether positive or negative.
