Oprah is increasing her online presence by offering a new channel on Youtube (GOOG), called of course: Oprah Channel, produced by her Harpo Productions.
There will be some of her more popular clips from her TV show included on the channel, but the initiative will center more on behind-the-scenes footage for the star, which will have scenes from backstage and the green-room.
Oprah says that the channel will feature “exclusive video including video I made myself just for YouTube, what’s coming up on my show from time to time we are going to be telling you, and also what happens backstage and during commercials and more.”
When you go to the channel, there is a video there now talking about what she will do, along with the general announcement of the new branded effort.
Harpo said the overall purpose of the channel is to create an online community centered around the program. They hope that through that even more interest in the show will be generated.
To help give the Oprah Channel on YouTube a boost, Oprah will include Steve Chen and Chad Hurley on her November 6 "The Oprah Winfrey Show, where there will also be other stars on the show who have emerged out of the YouTube culture. Two of them on the show will be the man who created "The Evolution of Dance," Jud Laipply, and also the dog that was so popular doing his skateboarding thing.
