Sometime early in 2008, made-for-web production "Quarterlife," created by Edward Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz, best know for "thirtysomething," will launch on NBC.
Quarterlife is the story is about how "magazine editor and writer Dylan Krieger sends her friends into fits when they discover that she keeps a rather insightful video blog about them on a Web site called 'quarterlife.'" It launched on MySpaceTV.com on November 11, and will run for 36 episodes, with each episode lasting about eight minutes.
It was inevitable that work produced on the Internet would end up on Television. With the particular producers involved, which lends immediate credibility to the project, it'll probably help move things quicker for others in this area.
Zwick and Herskovits said they've been in talks with a number of the large networks, they were looking for the network most willing to work with a new model; meaning allowing them to keep creative control of the project. With NBC (GE), their key contact was Ben Silverman, whom they had been talking to before he landed at the network.
NBC plans on turning the show into an hour-long series, which will obviously be edited for length, but also for language.
With the show currently running on the Internet, NBC must wait for it to finish before putting it on the network. It's expected to premiere sometime in February or March 2008.
NBC paid a licensing fee to the producers to get the show, which will also be distributed internationally.
Starring in the show are Bitsie Tulloch, Scott M. Foster, David Walton and Michelle Lombardo.
