The beta launch of ChicksDigGames.com is an attempt at feeling out the female gaming community to see where they're really at.
The site seems to be out to try to prove too much, that female gamers aren't different than males, something already proven to be wrong. Casual gaming is by far the choice of women gamers.
For example, Sarah Schutz, co-founder of the site says, "While many girls do play games like The Sims, it is not quite clear whether it is because this is the genre of choice, or because these games have just been marketed more heavily towards women."
The site also includes the purpose saying:
"Most women gaming sites do the same thing that many of the mainstream sites do by fitting women into a very small category of gamers, limiting their understanding of what women play and how they play. CDG is a place where women and men gamers alike can come as they are to share a unique perspective on games. We hope to not only bring women gamers together, but introduce the industry to what women gamers really want."
This site does look like it could serve an underserved portion of the female gaming population, but the idea that women gamers really don't want casual gaming and different games than their male counterparts is just wishful thinking and being blinded by a shortsighted ideology.
This may turn into a niche site for female gamers that have an interest in similar games to male gamers. It's not going to change the types of choices women in the majority make in what they want to play.

i don't think a casual gaming site needs to be so stricly gender oriented. as long as it's fun with a wide variety of games i'm good to go. as an avid female gamer i'm prone to iwon.com simply because they have tons of games available and in different categories, esp with their relaunched 2.0 site. the prizes and money are consistenly given way too, which male or female is always good! thanks for the great posts:)
