Saying they want to provide a faster and more reliable digital download for its customers, Starbucks (SBUX) announced an agreement with Akamai to that end.
The partnership will include Akamai running on service within Starbucks' stores, making the downloads a local event.
"Last mile access has been reduced to a few feet, dramatically improving end-user performance and eliminating the expense and time-to-market of having to increase connectivity in each store location," Starbucks said in a statement.
This comes from the deal Starbucks made with Apple (AAPL) to empower Starbucks' customers to download music from Apple's iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store, while using various Apple devices like the iPhone, iPod and the Mac.
Part of the new agreement will also make it easier to bring content from iTunes to other Starbucks coffee shops.
Akamai is already used by Apple to help it manage the music downloads from iTunes.
The Akamai service will begin on November 8, at approximately 900 Starbucks in San Francisco, Seattle and New York. Eventually they'll expand it across all its U.S. stores.
