Blinkx has added a new element called the AdHoc Widget, which can be used to overlay text ads on embedded video.
It works by sending a request for the ad whenever a syndicated or embedded video clip are played on the web site.
There are two ways the ad can be used. The first way is a small text box that is presented above the video player and not within the frame. The second is the actual overlay displayed over the video itself. If the video has been indexed with the blinkx code, it then sends the request for the ad.
"The dramatic growth of online video has been driven by a global audience -- individuals who are creating and distributing user-generated content," said Suranga Chandratillake, founder and CEO, blinkx. "blinkx's new AdHoc widget enables Internet users to monetize the video they choose to embed on their
webpages and blogs quickly and easily."
This adds to the recently launched contextual advertising platform where marketers are able to time their ads and customize the look of video ads.
