Saying the upcoming Website T-Works will be a big part of the company's online strategy, Warner Bros. Chairman-CEO Barry Meyer announced the Internet initiative on Thursday.
“T-Works will serve as a great marketing platform for all the studio’s businesses, helping us to reach audiences in a space and in a manner that’s all about Warner Bros.," said Meyer.
The company will draw from its vast array of cartoon characters from Looney Tunes, DC Comics and Hanna-Barbera to put on the site.
Warner wanted to go beyond simply throwing up old episodes of TV shows to view, and to that end are including a virtual world where visitors will be able to interact with the cartoon characters virtually. Even so, there will be a lot of broadband video to watch if a visitor wants to as well.
Warner will also enable users to take the characters and create mashups with them, one of the more popular online activities. Visitors will also be able to communicate with other fans using Warner characters as avatars.
While the new site will be ad-supported, Warner Bros. TV Group head Bruce Rosenblum said T-Works will do it in a way that's not too disruptive.
