Google (GOOG) will finally get a hearing from a U.S. Senate subcommittee on their proposed $3.1 billion acquisition of Web advertising supplier DoubleClick Inc.
When Google announced they had a deal in place with the company, antitrust concerns were raised in the U.S., where the Federal Trade Commission is closely looking at the deal.
Rivals of Google like AT&T (T) and Microsoft (MSFT) have asked for the scrutinization, saying if Google closed the deal it would give them far too much power in the online advertising industry. The potential deal is also being closely looked at by the European Union and Australia.
The primary concerns of the impact the deal would have on privacy issues and competition will be talked about in the hearing scheduled on Thursday, September 27, when the Senate Judiciary Committee's subcomittee on antitrust competition and consumer rights will meet.
