Lulu Files Lawsuit Against News Corp./NBC Partnership Hulu

The online company Lulu, which helps authors self publish their own writings, has filed a law suit against the recently named partnership between News Corp. (NWS-A) and NBC (GE) called Hulu.

Duncan Riley at Techcrunch said about it: "Lulu alleges that Hulu have intentionally attempted to create confusion in the marketplace in that the name Hulu represents a definitive encroachment on Lulu’s name. Lulu also claims Hulu’s trademark filing of August 22 identifies various products and services, many of which are related to, and even identical to, the services that Lulu provides under its Lulu marks."

I'm not sure where Lulu gets the idea that downloading video owned by the networks are identical to the services they offer, but we'll see if the lawsuit is even allowed to go to court.

This is an obvious marketing ploy by Lulu. There are a lot of companies that file lawsuits that are in reality marketing lawsuits ... filed for the purpose of getting the name of the company in the media. And obviously it's working. Riley got sucked into this one good.

I wonder what Lulu will do about the existing names that are domains for other companies that start with a different letter of the alphabet? Here are some that exist already:

bulu.com

culu.com

julu.com

kulu.com

mulu.com

pulu.com

rulu.com

sulu.com

tulu.com

vulu.com

yulu.com

zulu.com

Some of these are parked domains, but others are full-fledged sites.

What if it's found out that some of these existed before Lulu? Will they in turn file a lawsuit against Lulu for the same reason?

That Riley writes about this as if it's a serious story shows he's so distorted by his hate of these companies that he didn't do his homework.
