In the U.S., it's consitution day today, marking the 220th anniversary of the signing of our constitution.
Thinking about that and the First Amendment to the constitution and the freedom of speech, brings me to all the stuff we can interact with on the Internet.
Freedom of speech is of course two-sided. On the one hand it offers a wide pool of information and debate about just about any topic or subject, on the other hand there can also be a lot of misinformation and nonsense we have to wade through to reach some gold nuggets of information.
This is just a reminder to me that while freedom of speech is great, we do have to have our guard up as far as it relates to gathering information we base decisions on.
There's a lot of junk thrown at us we have to be cautious of adopting. When it comes to our online businesses and marketing, we need to do our homework and respond to stuff that makes sense to our businesses.
Even good information that doesn't relate to our businesses is useless to us, as far as online marketing goes, so we have to learn to be willing and able to disgard anything that takes us off what we're doing.
Another thing is the vast amount of information out there coming from free speech also makes us have to focus on what our purpose is, as the sheer volume of information makes it impossible to even make a dent in what's out there. So we must stay disciplined in keeping on what our purpose is, or we'll be tempted to take all sorts of information trails unrelated to the market we serve.
Happy constitution and free speech day.
