Saying leaving ABC was her decision, Amanda Congdon of Rocketboom fame, has left another job with the promise she's about to start some other project online soon; presumably Oxmour Entertainment, started early 2007 with Mario Librandi.
ABC stated: "It's been a great year with Amanda — a great experiment for both of us. We thank her for her many contributions and know that she's about to embark on new endeavors and expect there will be times in the future that we can again work together."
This is of course a nice way of saying she didn't work out for them.
Valleywag asks the question concerning Congdon going on to her next project: "Will anyone care? Or has her audience, like ABC, tired of her 'experiments?'"
We've talked on other posts in the past concerning some of the decisions Amanda made, and I think she's still paying for them now.
Amanda isn't getting much mindshare anymore, as her offline activities haven't really worked out, even though she has some project with HBO in the works.
It seems her former fan base left her when she left Rocketboom. She's never had the "buzz" she had since leaving. There is so much more happening online now that Amanda has overall dropped off their radar. That and the possibility that there is Amanda "fatigue" doesn't bode well for her future.
I think she'll do fine as far as making a living online, but her chance at being an online superstar has been missed. Others have already filled those shoes, with more coming online on a steady basis.
