In a move to get a larger piece of the growing online video audience, Yahoo! Inc. (YHOO) is making a lot of changes to its site, so by the end of the year they'll have a lot more content from users and media companies.
Online video in America alone is viewed by 130 million people, with over 8.36 billion streams a month. Google (GOOG) gets 22 percent of that, one of the reasons Yahoo! is ramping up its efforts, getting only 4.6 percent of video streams at this time.
Some of the categories they'll be targeting will be the ever-popular sports highlights, movie trailers, music videos and television shows. The company says it will also add video to it photo-sharing site Flickr.
Mike Folgner, Yahoo's general manager for video said, "One of our strategies is to put video everywhere you are on the Internet. We're going to build a much better destination for you to access all this different content. We already have a lot of these deals. We just don't service them in one place so you don't see them. We'll
be able to drive a lot of traffic at this."
Yahoo! has a number of deals in place with a variety of media companies; including Major League Baseball, the National Football League, the Associated Press and CNN for news, and several major music companies.
