A recent study by ShopLocal.com shows that the retail Christmas shopping season continues to extend, especially with online shoppers using the Internet to research potential buys months ahead of Christmas day.
Of the over 2,000 people surveyed, a full 33 percent said they have already purchased items for Christmas by June or earlier.
Another 18 percent said they used the Internet to research larger priced items before they decide what to buy for the holidays, especially all types of electronics and jewelry.
For those that have already made purchases, 49 percent have bought in the physical stores, 13 percent online and 38 percent saying they bought through both channels for their holiday lists.
While it's a discipline to keep it in mind, we are almost to the place where marketing with Christmas in mind is a year-long endeavor. It shows the importance of having our products described in detail, and with high-end items making sure we have quality pictures to go with them.
People are either researching on the Internet or buying based upon that research just about during the whole year. We can't let our guards down at all any more in our online marketing. We have to assume they're shopping throughout the year for the potential buys, because in reality they are!
