In a play to extend the Page Six brand across any platform they can get it on, Richard Johnson has been on the lookout and searching for those into the celebrity gossip genre who want to help him do it.
He's been interviewing a number of bloggers, editors and reporters in this space in hopes of enlarging the regional brand.
The NYMag quoted one interviewee saying: "Essentially 'Page Six' is looking to hire reporters and editors to expand the brand on a variety of platforms, Web, television, magazine, etc. They think they need to extend their gossip reach out of NYC and into L.A., Miami, Vegas — maybe even Nashville."
With gossip growing in a big way, obviously the company feels it can leverage its brand to become a huge player in the field. It probably will succeed, as it has done great in the market it has served.
It'll be interesting to see if competitors like TMZ.com will respond in any way to the threat. More than likely the strongest play will be on the Internet, which is strewn with big gossip sites and seemingly thousands of wannabees.
Maybe you could check with Page Six if you have an interest in everything celebrity.
