Most successful online marketers have know through the years that one of the keys to online marketing success is creating and owning the rights to your own product.
I've thought about that in reference to video as the overwhelming majority of news coverage is concerning the ad-supported model. While that will increasingly become a huge moneymaker, there are many ways online video could be monetized.
Now back to owning your own product. If you do own it, there are a variety of things you could do to promote and sell it. Of course some are combining video and selling things on eBay (EBAY), like an online classified, while others on YouTube. Nothing too difficult there, just video what it is you have and wait for a response.
That's a legitimate way of making money, but I'm thinking of something a little different. If you have any desire to make video, think of creating a little video series that is sponsored by the product or service that you own outright.
You could in reality be promoting two different products without any additional cost. Think of how Mutual of Omaha had sponsored the Wild Kingdom for years on television. Why couldn't you promote an online video series in a similar way?
Again, the key is having your own product, which gives you the latitude to try different things in this area. I see a lot of potential in this area, because if you have a quality product, you could drive the type of sales that could help you make the video series even better. The series itself could become another product. It could end up being a powerful cycle of success.
Be careful not to be hypnotized by the endless chatter of ad-supported video which you relegate to only the big companies. There's a ton of ways you can make money from online video when you own your own product or service. This is one good one.
