
Visitors will abandon Websites where video doesn't perform up to visitor expectations, says a study conducted by Jupiter Research for Akamai Technologies.
The two areas making the greatest impact are the viewing experience itself and if the video corresponds to what the visitor expected to see.
On the viewing experience, the major sources of frustration are the video taking too long to begin and buffering that interrupts the viewing.
A total of 60 percent of respondents said they would be less apt to return to a site where the video experience is poor. Almost 50 percent said they would seek their video on a different site.
Marketingcharts reported the consequences for poor performance of online video is less return visitors, advertising revenues and goodwill.
The good news for video content providers is 80 percent of online video consumers say they don't mind watching advertising in exchange for free online video content.
