NBC has teamed up with Israeli start-up HIRO Media to offer their DotComedy content free with an ad-supported element added to their videos.
HIRO will serve up the technology to offer the service, while NBC starts off with its "Comedy to Go" video clips. NBC says they'll use the platform for all their download needs.
The advertising platform will be dynamic in that it will allow NBC videos to be offered with a changing advertisement each time the viewer watches the videos.
It works with offline and online viewing.
Supplying unique commercials to different people at different times of the day does give advertisers more flexibility in what they embed within the video.
DotComedy CEO Sean Redlitz said, “From the first joke in history to the latest video clip, comedy is at its best when it is transmitted from person to person. We’re very excited to offer viewers a new way to download original content, share it with others, and offer advertisers a way to deliver focused messages to viewers in a dynamic way at the right time.”
It seems the platform will only work with Windows Media Player.
