Albie Hecht is the genius responsible for hits like "Dora the Explorer," "SpongeBob SquarePants" and "The Naked Brothers Band."
Knowing his trail of success, a number of big investors have invested in him and his new digital production studio, Worldwide Biggies. Included in the investors are Greycroft LLC ... connected to Alan Patricof, NBC Universal (GE), PrismVentureWorks, Hearst Corp. and Platform Equity, which have invested $9 million in the company combined.
The New York Post reports the first venture of the digital studio will be in partnership with TMZ.com, which will target the young adult demographic with "StarvStar.com," which will be a fantasy-sports-meets-celebrity-scandal online game, said the article. It will involve players drafting celebrity teams where they can acquire points based on how much they're covered by the various tabloids and websites during the week.
NBC Universal has also made a deal with the company to distribution rights to the digital content from the studio if it generates enough scale to justify a producing a film, TV show, video game, Broadway production or merchandise play.
With Hecht's record, something noteworthy will emerge out of the new, creative studio he created. I also like the fact he didn't get over-financed, as it can cause lethargy and a lack of urgency in a business. This new digital studio is definitely worth watching, a lot of great stuff will come out of it.
