With its recent acquisition of TreeHugger.com, Discovery Communications has shown that it's ramping up its strategy to grow its online presence. It now has plans to stream a select group of TV shows on its web site.
One unique step they're taking is to offer its popular "Meerkat Manor" a week before it airs on its Discovery Channel. It launched the program online today (Friday), while the network premiere won't launch until next week. Once the show is under way it'll be offered online the day after the show is broadcast.
The other shows they'll start streaming will also be offered in the usual day after strategy. They include "LA Ink" and "Dirty Jobs," which will start on August 8. The channel said it'll increase the numbers of streaming shows later this year.
Move Networks is the chosen video player to stream the content. They also provide the VOD service for ABC (DIS).
