Wal-Mart (WMT) has come out of beta with its Wal-Mart Mini Movie service, which enables users to take personal digital photos and create quality Mini Movies that they can share with whoever they want. The service is free to registered users who buy a photo CD from Wal-Mart or download it, and is offered in English and Spanish.
"From start to finish, Mini Movies can be created, viewed and shared in about a minute," says a Wal-Mart company announcement. "A coordinating Movie Poster is also automatically generated and ready to share," it adds.
You can select from a number of template-themed backgrounds called storyboards, and add any six pictures you want. Then all you do is name the new creation and you're finished. Wal-Mart has worked with Sequoia Media Group to create the service.
Together they're also working on a product that will make full-length DVD movies called myMovieMaker, which will be available in Wal-Mart stores on July 21.
It will be offered through Fuji kiosks, with prices starting at $12.86, for a professional looking DVD movie that can include up to 40 photos and set to music. It also includes the themed templates or storyboards as well. They will take a very short time to create as well.
These are obviously made for non-technological people, which is why it'll really be a success. Using the tools, it's so simple that it should take even the most technologically challenged person a minute or two to learn how to use.
The quality is also in line with what most regular people will be thrilled to have. It's a great personalization service that should really do well for Wal-Mart.
