RealNetworks has signed on with Mattel to develop several of their casual games for the international market, with the exception of North America for Scrabble.
Included in the games they'll develop along with the popular Scrabble, will be UNO, among several others. Users will be able to download them to their PC or play them online.
"Consumers are looking for fun, interactive game-play in the online world, and Real's experience and understanding of the casual gaming market makes them a great choice as our partner as we expand our efforts in this arena," said Cynthia Neiman, vice president, marketing, Mattel Games in a press release. "Together, we are bringing some of the world's most popular games to a new format, creating an interesting 'twist' on classic family game-play."
The casual games industry entails over 200 million worldwide participants, according to the Casual Games Association, and revenue is projected to reach $1.5 billion by 2008.
RealNetworks has developed some of the more popular casual games like "South Park 10: The Game" and "Super Collapse."

This was a natural fit for Mattel. Their profits have been lagging for some time now, and the move to offering their trademarks online should help to increase sales both online and off-line.
