The plan by ABC (DIS) to air a ton of additional video content related to the popular CMA Music Festival, to me is a great idea. The festival ran from June 7-10.
The media company will present, via its ABC.com site, exclusive behind-the-scenes action of the event that should draw a large number of visitors.
Alexis Rapo, vp, digital media, ABC Television Network, said concerning the initiative, “Country music fans are incredibly loyal, and we wanted to offer them behind-the-scenes moments from the festival that they couldn’t get anywhere else. This is a great way to bring the festival and the stars even closer to the audience.”
What I like about this is its exclusivity; that in itself will relate to true fans. It will provide them with something that goes beyond their expectations, something any company should strive for.
There will also be a two-hour, highlighted synopsis of the festival which was seen in 50 states and a number of nations, broadcast on July 23. To build up interest, ABC.com will start to post the video clips from the festival, along with artist interviews, starting on July 9.
The other part of this that will appeal to users is the artist interviews. Real fans of any type of business can never get enough of seeing their heroes and people that interest them.
Lastly, think of why people buy director's cuts of DVDs and the behind-the-scenes look at what happened during the filming. This is what ABC.com is playing to, and with the country music fan base, should be wildly successful at.
If you're looking at doing video, think of these things, along with whatever type of video you may be shooting. Even if it's a training video, having someone film what is being shot could be more interesting and even lucrative than the product you end up with.
This is a vastly underrated part of video that we need to strongly look at. The possibilities are almost endless with what you could do here. People love it.
