Not being too successful with their "On the Lot" on television, News Corp. (NWS-A) through their MySpace property, along with the Producers Guild of America will be offering a similar show on the web called The Storyteller Challenge.
Participants looking to get their content before a Hollywood mogul are encouraged to enter pilots from five to seven minutes long where two entrants will be given the chance to win $25,000 and an opportunity for a deal at Fox.
True to their social networking roots, MySpace will also offer the community access to the content so they can vote for their favorite videos. They will also be able to interact with the producers and give their input for plot lines and offer up their two cents on what they think could be improved.
The top six finalists will be determined by user rankings and an expert panel of judges which include executives from Fox, top film schools and members of the Producers Guild.
“The Storyteller Challenge gives aspiring producers the potential opportunity to cut through Hollywood’s red-tape and get an audience with top brass in the television business, all while cutting their teeth with the MySpace community,” said Chris DeWolfe, CEO of MySpace.
The top six will be flown to Hollywood to pitch their pilots to judges. The winning videos will be shown on the new MySpaceTV video platform.
