A quick look at a post on Lost Remote reminded me of the launch of ABC.com's high-definition video player in beta. It's pretty much everything they promised it would be. The only downside is if you don't have a highspeed connection (ABC recommends a minimum bandwidth of 2 Mbps and screen resolution of 1300×770), it will do some stuttering.
My high-speed connection worked flawlessly with it. They do require a quick plugin which takes only a few seconds to download. Most people shouldn't mind that for the quality you get with it.
It's interesting to see a traditional media company lead the way in video playback, but they're obviously working from their strengths, which is professionally made video. It is in their interests to create great playback applications.
I wonder if they'll license it out to other companies or keep it in-house?
