
For the month of May 2007, search engines accounted for 25 percent of the visits to Shopping and Classified Websites in the U.S., according to Hitwise, cited by Marketingcharts. That's up by 0.7 percent from May of 2006.
It's no surprise that Google (GOOG) is the leading source for search engine traffic for Shopping and Classified sites, with a 15.6 percent total for upstream visits, up by 8.7 percent from May 2006.
Since May of 2005, single-word searches have increased to 23.7 percent of search terms that send traffic to Shopping and Classified Websites in May of 2007. That's an increase of 20 percent since May 2005.
From May 2006, social networking sites have played an increasing role in the source of traffic to these sites as well, accounting for 3.6 percent of upstream visits for May 2007, which is 86.7 percent more than May 2006. MySpace (NWS-A) was responsible for 3.2 percent of that.
