Rocketboom founder Andrew Michael Baron has been struggling to find a way to monetize his popular Rocketboom online video show, as many big companies wanted much more scale than the show offered. Evidently those days of looking are now over as YouTube (GOOG) has signed on to sponsor the show.
This is a good example of the sponsorship model we've been talking about at thealphamarketer. Personally I think we're going to see a lot more of that in the near future as an increasingly important Internet model.
Elements for the Rocketboom sponsorship include:
1. A 7-second post roll with company logo and byline. Migrates across all platforms.
2. Company Name and Link.
3. Sponsor Blog Entry
4. Quicktime Chapter Market
The sponsorships are being sold for $3,000 per episode until September 1, and will increase to $5,000 after that date. Rocketboom will offer some discounts for startups.
The new Rocketboom channel on YouTube should also increase the value of the franchise as it will offer up much easier ways to interact with the material when viewers want to embed, share, comment on or subscribe to the show through the browser.
This has been a project has been starting and sputtering for awhile. Successful sponsorship should help to bring it to a much higher level. But watching this story f
or some time, I think the company needs someone that knows business to step in and help run things on the operations side. It doesn't seem like there's anybody with the company that has been enlisted on that side of things. The creative seems fine.
