The Beatles have been notorious for slowly responding to new technology and music distribution throughout the years - and they've kept that reputation intact -as Paul McCartney finally released his first digital offering this spring by putting all his single material online for the first time.
Ringo Starr is now following suit as he has agreed to release all his solo Capitol/EMI catalog online. They include 1970's "Beacoups of Blues" and "Sentimental Journey," 1973's "Ringo," and 1974's "Goodnight Vienna."
Starting on August 28, Starr's music will be available where EMI content is distributed, which will include, like McCartney, unprotected MP3 formats. There will
be six ringtones included in the digital music release.
Of course the next thought that arises is if this is a prelude to increasing interest in the digital release of the Beatles catalog, which McCartney has said is pretty much a done deal ... although specifics are yet to be revealed.
